The history of the University dates to 1887 years when the first technical vocational school Baku Technical College was established in Baku. It was subject to several reorganizations since that time. It was reorganized as Azerbaijan Polytechnical Institute in 1950 and was finally renamed to Azerbaijan Technical University in 1991.
