The Faculty of Social Sciences has been a regional centre of teaching and research since its establishment in 1990. Although the Faculty itself is quite young, the whole Charles University belongs to the oldest universities in the world – it was founded in 1348 by the Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV. Charles University is the only Czech university that appears every year in the Academic Ranking of World Universities.

We offer high-quality Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD degree programmes in all fields of social sciences. At this moment, more than 5000 students study at the Faculty, including more than 1000 international students.

Each year we welcome more than 500 exchange students from all over the world. We support the mobility of students and academic staff, we host leading international experts, and we actively participate in international scientific projects.

Our graduates and teachers hold important positions in public life - as experts at the ministries, embassies of the Czech Republic, the European Union, in international or multinational commercial companies, as leading economists in banks, well-known journalists, politicians or members of research agencies.
